The papers contain correspondence, Civil War discharge papers, financial papers, tax receipts, warranty deeds, insurance policies, school certificates and diplomas, licenses, Ora Joe Hanks's diary, a scrapbook of handwritten poetry given to Ora as a birthday present, a notebook/travelogue which Ora kept during her family's trip from Arkansas to Illinois to the Hanks family reunion, picture postcards of Fayetteville, Arkansas, family studio portraits and photographs, and other family documents. Several of the family portraits and some of the unidentified pictures were taken by the Fayetteville, Arkansas, photographers, such as B.E. Grabill, Sowder, and C.E. Watton.
